A photo blog of Spurgeons

A picture tells a thousand words - so here are a few pictures to tell many thousand words.
They relate to Spurgeons Childcare Kenya, a project I first got to know about through CRED but which is now firmly embedded in my heart forever.

It is based in Kibera - the largest slum in Nairobi, and indeed in East Africa (or so the Kiberans say), and it supports orphans and vulnerable children through provision of education and extra-curricular activities at Spurgeons Academy, plus social support, clothing, food and care for the wider family if needed.

All this is done in a very faith-filled way, as Kenyanito and the staff pray their way through each situation, trusting in God to provide what they need, and to use the resources they have in miraculous ways.

To the children, Spurgeons is a place of learning, love, hope, safety, security, food, understanding and acceptance. When their lives are so often in such states of turmoil and vulnerability, to have this oasis of God's love available to them is a lifeline that allows them to grow up into grounded, positive, faith-filled, hope-filled, aspirational, self-less young adults. And having been journeying with Spurgeons over the years, I can confirm that this is the case time and time again. A remarkable organisation.

Spurgeons Academy - a place to learn.....

.....and to play.....

....to get food and water.....

....to hang out with friends.....

.....and to know love and safety and acceptance such that the students grow into young adults who love life
